| CELESTIAL NAVIGATION |
These exciting classes are designed to introduce you to the joys of navigating by the stars. Electronics, GPS or batteries can fail, whereas humans have been steering their vessels while utilizing these beacons in the sky for thousands of years. Learning to understand the "clockwork of the heavens" is a profoundly satisfying experience in addition to providing an extra level of navigational safety and confidence. We utilize a combination of classroom theory, use of a sextant, nautical almanac, HO 249 Volume I and II Tables as well as calculation of sample problems and sextant sightings with subsequent sight reductions via HO 249 and plotting lines of position. Emphasis is on the practical application of taking sextant sightings and reducing them to a navigational position utilizing, simple forms developed exclusively for Bluewater Sailing.

| INSTRUCTOR QUALIFICATION CLINICS |
A very special group of sailors feels the need to share their knowledge and love of sailing with others through instruction. In the past, a good sailor became a sailing instructor simply by beginning to teach and declaring himself or herself an instructor.
The American Sailing Association was organized to establish national standards for instructor certification in the United States. We take experienced instructors and expert sailors and give them the tools they need to become certified instructors.
ASA Instructor clinics test existing skills and knowledge while teaching a structured curriculum and proven presentation techniques. ASA certified instructors have proven they measure up to a national standard which is used by more than 90% of the commercial sailing schools in the country. Take the challenge and attend an ASA Instructor Certification Clinic.
This is an opportunity to continue with additional certifications as well as establish a potential career as a professional sailor. |
